Health and Physical Education at our school is supported by a seasoned Physical Education specialist teacher in Ms. Liz Thorne. All grades have a 60 minute focused Physical Education session each week, which is then supplemented by class sports and daily morning fitness activities. The emphasis is on skill development and the need to be active.

Foundation to Grade 2 students cover the skills needed in ball handling, minor games, basic gymnastics, dance and athletics.

Grades 3-6 students cover the skills needed for athletics/cross-country, major games (football, netball, volleyball, cricket, softball/t-ball], gymnastics and dance).

Grades 4-6 are involved in inter-school sports competitions with local schools in the district. There are also a range of extra activities offered externally, including kayaking.

YGPS supports the delivery of quality swimming and water safety education. As per the government initiated ‘Swimming in Schools’ program, all students participate in our swimming program each year. By the end of primary school, it is anticipated that students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills identified in the Victorian Water Safety Certificate. The Certificate is awarded when a student can swim 50m continuously, answer water safety based questions and perform simple rescues. You can find out more information at Life Saving Victoria website.

The whole school performs a concert involving acting and dance bi-annually, with previous concerts involving The Stomp Dance Company to choreograph and teach our students a dance routine.
